Local.com the easiest way to find information online

Posted by Gina on Jul 13, 2008

For the past couple of years I have been using the yellow pages online to find information about different restaurants, hotels, etc.  When you work in the avertising field, like I have in the past you are constantly searching the internet for information such as driving directions, ratings on hotels, and more.  The yelowpages.com was a big help, but sometimes I needed a little more information than what the yellow pages offered.

Since then I have discovered a better method for gathering information called local.com.  Local.com goes one step beyond your typical search engine.  It encompasses information from many different sources including the yellowpages.com, yelp.com, and city search.  If you can’t find all the information you need on one of these sites you can search another one that local.com offers.  It’s great it works as a one stop shop.

Homelessness

Posted by Gina on Jul 11, 2008

I just heard a very sad story on the news.  It was about a man in Florida who begged police to take him back to jail.  I don’t know about you, but jail is the last place I want to go.  He was released earlier this year and has been unemployed and on the streets ever since.  He intentionally walked right up to a police officer and handed him crack cocaine.  Once back behind bars he mentioned this was the place he felt at home.  It was clean, there was a bed to sleep on, and he got 3 meals a day.

Why is it that some ex-convicts are able to find steady work and survive outside of jail and others just can’t seem to make it.  One person in particular that is married to a friend of mine is an ex-convict.  He was in prison for 12 years and is now working for Americas Most Wanted of all places.  He has completely turned his life around and is happily married, doing volunteer work with men who are in prison, and working to put criminals away.  He really has turned his life around.  Then when I hear about other people who can’t survive outside of the prison walls it breaks my heart.  I guess a lot of it depends on the choices we make.  At least for now I’m going to believe that.

Crazy News

Posted by Gina on Jul 7, 2008

This world is a crazy place to live sometimes.  I just don’t understand some people.  One of the top stories on cnn today was about a twenty year old girl engaged to a serial killer.  Not only is that horrific enough, but the man she is engaged to is also forty-four years older than she is.

He is hoping to be free from prison soon due to lack of evidence in the last case.  The strange thing is though he had confessed to murdering people throughout the 70’s.  Do those murders not count anymore?  I hope the justice system overseas will use some common sense and will not set him free.  How is it that confessed murderers can go free anyhow?

Izea and Blog Advertising

Posted by Gina on Jul 5, 2008

I can remember from a very young age the impact that advertising had on people.  There were commercials on TV that my bothers and sisters would talk about long after they ran.  Slogans or phrases used that we would begin to use and products we forced our parents to buy us because we liked the way they were marketed.  I remember becoming a fan of Pepsi because of the blind taste test challenge in the early 80’s.

You might wonder how effective advertising is and which method is the most popular in increasing sales dollars. Today print, media, and internet advertising have all become popular models for companies to use.  Newspapers stay in business due to the advertisers.  Popular sporting events and popular TV shows are made possible through their advertisers who spend thousands of dollars in order to be seen during that time.  Last but not least internet advertising has become a huge sensation.  Blogging for one has allowed consumers to hear about a product before actually going out and purchasing it.  It’s ingenious because a company can talk up their product without any trouble, but to actually have a consumer rate a product is priceless.  Consumers have nothing to lose and if they love the product that makes for the whole sales campaign for that company.  blog marketing is an excellent way to get the word out.  It’s free, it’s easy, and by using the internet you have the whole world at your fingertips.

Competing for the world title in the National Finals Rodeo is not an easy task.  This 10 day event will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada this year on the campus of the University of Nevada.  This event is so popular that it has been deemed the World Series of Rodeo and the Super Bowl of Rodeo.  Many of the popular casinos carry the event live because all the tickets sell out before all the fans can purchase them.  The rodeo started back in the 50’s with the first competition held in Dallas in 1959.  It has continued every year since in a number of different cities with Las Vegas beating out the bid for it in 1984. For more information and to purchase tickets you can go to National Rodeo Finals tickets.
The event attracts huge crowds to the city and includes a Cowboy Christmas.  The convention center host this gift show concurrent with the rodeo.  The events in the rodeo include Bareback Riding, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Saddle Bronc Riding, Tie-down roping, Bull Riding, and Barrel Racing.  Barrel racing is the only event offered that is exclusive to women.  This event is so huge that special dirt is used for these competitions.  The competitors come from many different backgrounds, but the rodeo showcases the nations top fifteen money-winners in each event.
