I Love Bookstores
Posted by Gina on Mar 26, 2008
Most independent bookstores showcase regional literature and items you cannot buy elsewhere. Local authors and local points of interest may be highlighted in collections and special displays that chain stores would not bother to compile.
Among special touches of non-chain stores, handwritten signs with staff recommendations may direct you to writers you’ve never heard of, and local celebrities may participate in readings or discussion groups.
The tote bags at the “Strand Bookstore” in New York come in more than 30 designs, and were voted the number one souvenir to bring home to Japan by readers of Nikkei, a Japanese financial newspaper.
Another Blog I Like: Blah Blah Blah Ginger!
Posted by Gina on Mar 21, 2008
I was looking for a new domain name and just typed this into the browser to see if anyone had it and if so, what was it being used for?
Turns out it is the blog of two women who ditched everything they had in California and headed to Mexico in an RV. They travel quite a bit and come back to the States often. Their blog has tons of first hand experience and stories about life in Mexico as ex-pats and I love reading it.
One of these days I’ll actually comment on a post and thank them for the effort they put into writing their journal and uploading the beautiful photographs. If you want to read it for yourself, check out Bad Dog, also known as Blah Blah Blah Ginger!
Following a Blog Trail
Posted by Gina on Mar 16, 2008
I have a couple blogs bookmarked that I read just for giggles. Sometimes I don’t even remember how I came across them. Often I’ll click on the blogroll links of other bloggers who I clicked on from the blogroll links of someone else that I clicked on . . .
I guess it is the new version of surfing. I have found some really interesting people out there just by random clicks - some are a lot like me and some are nothing like me at all. But it all makes for interesting reading! And it’s not as depressing as the newspapers.
If you are a celebrity hound, you might get a giggle from this blog I found called “Go Fug Yourself.”
They can be scathingly cruel to celebrities, but maybe they deserve it. For all the money and professionals who can help them just a phone call away, why do some of these mega stars wear the most ugly dresses, bad hair and awful makeup to the big events like the Oscars? It is amazing to me how freaking ugly these people can be in gowns that cost thousands of dollars and they KNOW they are going to be photographed from every possible angle and talked about. I mean, come on! Someone of these people need a big reality check, and Go Fug Yourself steps right up to do that.
Have fun!
I hope Hillary Clinton wins the Presidency race

I like her Universal Health Care plans. I like Obama a lot, but I’d rather see Hillary Clinton win. What I’d really like is for Hillary to be President and Obama be Vice President. I’d like to see that for two terms, then have Obama be President for two terms!
I think I’d like that a lot! But actually, anyone but McCain - he’s too old and too hot headed. We need a change.
A strange use for vinegar
Posted by Gina on Mar 5, 2008
Well, today is laundry day. I was dismayed to discover that I have run out of my liquid fabric softener! I lent my car to my son for the day, so had no car to run to the store. I called Angela and asked her if she had any fabric softener I could “bum off of” her. She asked me if I had any white vinegar. I said, yes, but what has that to do with it? She told me to use the vinegar instead of fabric softener! I have never heard of doing that! She told me that it works just as well, does not “gunk up” the washing machine, disinfects the clothes, is cheaper than commercial liquid fabric softeners, is better for the environment, and that the vinegar smell dissipates within a few minutes.
I decided to try it, and guess what! It worked great! From now on, I’ll always use that for my fabric softener!
Who woulda thought it?
